Erin's Law Presentation

Ladd will hold our annual Erin's Law Presentation on February 5th and 6th. Nationwide, one in four girls and one in six boys will be a victim of sexual abuse by age 18. Over the past several years, multiple states, including Illinois, have enacted legislation to increase awareness of child sexual abuse through school-based prevention-oriented programming. This legislation, entitled Erin’s Law, was introduced in Illinois by Erin Merryn, a brave woman who has advocated nationally for this measure.

Erin’s Law requires that public schools teach an age-appropriate abuse-prevention syllabus for pre-K to 12th-grade students. In your school, Freedom House prevention educators will teach a carefully designed lesson that provides students with the necessary tools for personal safety – in a nurturing and caring environment that allows for open discourse and disclosure of any incidents. This lesson, which fulfills the Erin’s Law requirements, may include a variety of discussions, activities, and videos on:

  •  Ways to stay safe, including (but not limited to) internet safety, personal body safety, and "safe” and “unsafe” touches

  •  How children can recognize their instincts with conviction

  •  How to say no

  •  How to tell a trusted adult

Freedom House believes that this program will benefit the participating students and equip them with the tools to help ensure their safety. For more information about Erin’s Law, please visit http://www.erinslaw.org/.

Parents will be receiving an email notification of the upcoming presentation including an opt-out form. If you choose to opt your child out of the presentation, please fill out the form and return it to the office before February 5th.

School Improvement Day
